It’s every motorist or car owner’s nightmare: a broken down vehicle while you are on the highway, stranded in traffic and unable to move. The first thing that comes to mind is how can I get help? Who will come to my rescue? Will they tow me off the road? How much will it cost?

If your vehicle breaks down, there are many things you need to do before calling for emergency roadside assistance. First of all, check the battery voltage. It should be at least 12 volts. Next, turn off the ignition switch so that the engine won’t start. Then call the police or an ambulance. If your vehicle has been involved in an accident, make sure that you have the following information ready: your name, address, license plate number, insurance company, contact numbers, and any other details about your vehicle. Also note whether you have passengers inside the vehicle.

If you are not able to locate the keys to your vehicle, then you may want to consider using a mobile phone app like “Find My Car” to track your vehicle. This free service allows you to set up a profile for your vehicle including its color, model, year, location, mileage, and more. Once you find your vehicle, you can lock/unlock doors remotely, start the engine, unlock the trunk, and even send messages to your vehicle via text message.

You can also use a GPS device such as a smartphone or tablet to track your vehicle. These devices allow you to see its current position on Google Maps or Apple Maps. They also provide directions from one point to another. Some apps offer features such as automatic rerouting when you reach your destination, real-time tracking, and alerts when you arrive at your destination.

You can also ask someone nearby to help you out by offering them a ride home. However, this option is risky because you don’t know who might pick you up. So, always try to find a safe place where you can wait until help arrives.

In case your vehicle is stuck in the mud or snow, you can use a jack to lift the vehicle up. Make sure that you use only a sturdy jack and never a cheap one. A good quality jack will last longer than a cheap one.

In case your vehicle has no fuel, you can siphon gas from another vehicle or pump gas into your tank. But, please remember that doing this could cause serious damage to your vehicle. In case your car runs out of gas, you can either fill it up or use a portable generator to charge the battery. Portable generators are available online or at local hardware stores.
